18-year-old Dies, Three Others Injured In Head-on Collision

March 7, 2006

Christopher M. Hales told died Wednesday morning in a head-on traffic collision less than five miles from his Wylie home.

Mr. Hales, 18, and a friend had been driving to their construction job, passing through the rural town of St. Paul, just north of Wylie.

Their Honda was headed west in the 1700 block of Parker Road about 6:25 a.m. when a Ford Ranger pickup came around a bend in the road from the opposite direction.

The pickup crossed the centerline, causing the vehicles to collide, said Trooper Lonny Haschel, a Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman.

Mr. Hales died at the scene, according to Collin County Medical Examiner William Rohr.

Trooper Haschel did not identify Mr. Hales' friend or the two people in the pickup. All three were hospitalized Wednesday.

Two were flown to Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas. The third was driven to Baylor Medical Center at Garland.

Department of Public Safety officials are investigating the accident.
