Auto-related Accidents Kills Two
One man was killed in a near head-on collision while a woman was killed in a separate accident less than 12 hours later.
According police, Steven Hoppe, 32, of San Antonio was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe that collided with a 1999 Dodge Durango at an entrance ramp on the west frontage road just south of Bunton Overpass.
In the second fatality, a woman, whose name has not been released, was struck repeatedly while trying to cross the interstate on foot.
In the wreck that killed Hoppe, eight other people were injured. All were taken to Austin's Brackenridge Hospital, two by Starflight helicopter.
Apparently, the Chevy Tahoe was traveling northbound and the Dodge was southbound attempting to enter the interstate. The Tahoe did not yield for the Durango according to the police.
Hoppe was pronounced dead by Hays County Justice of the Peace Beth Smith.
