Truck Accident Kills Bryan Man

December 29, 2005

According to a Department of Public Safety report,

a Bryan man was killed Thursday when an 18-wheeler struck his pick-up truck in Grimes County.

The accident occurred at 6:45 a.m. on Texas 90 and involved Merrill Wells, 71, the driver of the pickup and 24-year-old Darren Drake, the truck driver.

According to a DPS report, Wells was driving his Ford Ranger pickup, three miles north of Roans Prairie, when he tried to make a left turn into a parking lot.

The 18-wheeler driven by Drake was southbound on Texas 90 and struck the pickup on the right side.

Wells was wearing his seat belt but was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. Drake was treated for minor cuts and scrapes.

Troopers were not available Thursday for comment. The accident remained under investigation late Thursday.
