Worker Killed When High Winds Hit Scaffolding

January 25, 2006

One worker died and another was hospitalized in Deer Park after high winds caused their scaffolding to collapse, sending them on a 40-foot free fall.

The two contract workers were working on the inside of a storage tanker on the 2600 block of Tidal Road when a part of the tanker wall collapsed about 2:30 p.m.

Wind gusts collapsed a portion of the wall, which collapsed inward and broke the scaffolding on which the two workers were working.

No one else was inside the tanker. One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene. Life Flight transported his colleague to an area hospital.

The victims' identities have not been released
