Elderly Woman Struck, Killed In Parking Lot
A woman killed while walking through the Kohl's Department Store parking lot was identified Tuesday as 79-year-old Juanita Watts of Beaumont, police said.
A car pulling out of a parking space struck the elderly woman about 9:51 a.m. as she walked to her vehicle, police said.
Police arrived to find Watts pinned under the vehicle, authorities said.
She was declared dead at the scene, police said.
A 28-year-old Beaumont woman, whom police declined to identify, was driving the Honda Accord that struck Watts, investigators said.
'The driver was taken into custody to get a blood sample,' police said. 'Any time there is a fatal accident the driver is required to give a blood sample.'
Police said that people walking in parking lots should walk in the center of the aisle to avoid being victims of accidents, as well as of criminals lurking between vehicles.
